New York Discount Car Rental and the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball team based in The Bronx area of New York City. Known as one of the most storied sports franchises in American history, the New York Yankees have won 26 World Series Championships making them one of the most successful sports teams on the planet. Founded as the Indianapolis/Indiana franchise of the Western Baseball League, the team later moved to New York City in time for the 1903-1904 season. Known officially as the New York City Highlanders, the team was often referred to as the Yankees by local sportswriters, and broadcasters. By 1913 the team had adopted the nickname as their official moniker, giving birth to one of the nations greatest sports stories. If youre planning on visiting The Bronx during your upcoming AAMCAR New York Discount Car Rental vacation dont forget to check out the teams home field, Yankee Stadium. This icon of America sport is definitely worth the New York discount car rental drive, so grab some friends and take a tour; you never know who you might run into!

Giving Birth to Americas National Pastime

The New York Yankees are practically credited with creating Americas love for baseball, introducing the country to players like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Since 1903 the team has continued to dominate the Major Leagues, making an unprecedented 39 World Series appearances in their over 100 years of league participation. But its interesting to note that it wasnt always easy for the Yankees, especially during the 1960s and early 1970s. When the franchise was sold in 1964 to the CBS radio/television corporation things quickly turned rotten the team wouldnt make another World Series appearance until 1976, finishing last in the league during the 1965-1966 season. Something was terrible wrong in The Bronx, causing fans to lose interest and faith in their hometown team. Thankfully the Yankees luck began to change in the early 1970s when George Steinbrenner purchased the ball club for a reported $10 million. The Yankees new found glory was short lived though, and by the early 1980s the team had returned to the bottom of the American league barrel.

The New Age of Yankee Supremacy

When the Yankees entered the 1990s it was as a last place team. Bad luck and even worse judgment had sent the team on a downward spiral of missed playoff births and disappointing performance. The teams management finally decided to change their game plan investing extensive amounts of energy into the teams farm system, developing their own special breed of baseball talent. Success came in 1994 when the Yankees posted the best record in the American League before the season was cut short by the players strike. By 1996 the Yankees were back in their prime, taking home the World Series Pennant for the first time in over 15 years! The team would later three-peat winning three consecutive titles between the years of 1998 and 2000, securing the teams status as a super sports dynasty.

Yankee Players in the Hall of Fame

The New York Yankees are the only team in the Major League to currently represent every position in the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is located in Cooperstown, New York. Prominent Yankees players found at Cooperstown include Reggie Jackson, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, and of course, the one and only Babe Ruth. Retired numbers currently hanging from the rafters at Yankee Stadium include #4 Lou Gehrig, #49 Ron Guidry and #37 Casey Stengel, along with a handful of other. Current players on their way to becoming immortalized in the Hall of Fame could include pitcher Randy Johnson, short stop Derek Jeter and infielder Alex Rodriguez.

    The Original Six Era

When the NHL was first formed it contained only six teams: the Boston Bruins, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. Referred to as Texs Rangers (after the teams manager) the New York hockey squad was ultra talented, winning the first ever American Division title in 1926. The next year marked the first of four Stanley Cup wins for the team, as the Rangers steamrolled the Montreal Maroons (now the Montreal Canadiens). Of course no win is ever easy, and the Rangers were forced to overcome some pretty impressive obstacles during their 1927 Stanley Cup match-up! During the first period the Rangers suffer a major setback as goaltender Lorne Chabot became injured early on in the game. No backup goalie was currently installed on the team, creating complete and utter dismay on the Ranger bench. In the end the teams coach, Lester Patrick, suited up and saved the team, rally against intense opposition and unbelievable odds! The Rangers won their second and third Stanley Cups in 1933 and 1940, defeating the mighty Toronto Maple Leafs both times.

    Recent History

The New York Rangers have recently entered an age of disappointment after capturing the Stanley Cup for a fourth time during the 1993-1994 season. Numerous coaching changes and player trades have plagued the team, creating immense unbalance amongst team members and franchise associates. Despite having the leagues highest payroll, the New York Rangers missed the playoffs for three consecutive years between 2000 and 2004, causing many fans to lose hope in their beloved Red, White and Blue. But dont give up just yet! The New York Rangers were currently in the process of rebuilding the team before last years lockout, so its safe to say that you can expect to see plenty of fresh new faces suiting up this September!
